Welcome to Alexander Acres, home of Champions of the Heart...English
Goldendoodles and American Goldendoodles in Northeastern Georgia. Alexander
Acres lies at the end of a dead end gravel road. A 10 acre tract of land attached to
40 acres owned by family, gives us privacy and protection from outside predators.
Our acreage is filled with hardwoods and rolling greens for all of Gods creatures.
We bought this property in 1999 and began to establish what we hope to be a long
lived homestead. My parents who lived nearby loved the serenity we had and began
to buy the property around us. They now have apx 40 acres that adjoins to us. In
2006 they finally moved next to us into their 5 year project.....a self constructed all
wood retirement cabin. We are thrilled to be living a country life and enjoying all
things in nature.
We are constantly working to make improvements/changes to help keep our place
beautiful for us and our animals. Don't be surprised to see a 'work in progress' when
you visit.
We are....
..a family of 4. We are involved in our community and church. Both of our children
are active in sports and other activities which keeps us hopping. We are 'outside'
people. We enjoy landscaping, gardening, working with animals, and just
enjoying nature.
Our serious involvement with canines began about 9 years ago, when we got our
cocker Hagen. He was a great dog and just passed in 2006. We began with pet
cockers and just a couple litters a year in our home. We then began to admire a
more correct cocker and purchased show cockers. We began to travel to AKC
shows and learned how to train dogs for confirmation as well as obedience.
A few years into it we felt as if our cocker breeding program had reached its
plateau. We had top notch pedigrees, dogs that could finish their title in 2
weekends, and all the major grooming we wanted! Things had gotten very
serious and were not as fun as they had been. So we began to research our
options. I came across Goldendoodles and Labradoodles and began to
research. I am a very thorough person and wanted to have all the information at
hand. I visited vets, vet schools, vet research clinics, and some consulting firms
before moving forward. We then began to look for dogs to use in our program.
We held each dog for 6 months before deciding if we would use them or not.
Some made the cut others...did not. Temperament and intelligence is very
important to us, not only for breeding....but for us as pets. Our numbers climbed
and we got up to 28 dogs here at one time. It was just too much and unfair to the
dogs. There is no way 4 adults could give all of them the attention they needed
and still keep things clean! So slowly we decreased our numbers to only 15
adults. Things seem to work a lot better now. I can enjoy working with my dogs
and just playing with them. My parents also have a couple of retrievers and they
frequently meet us at the pond for an afternoon dip.
In the middle of our breeding beginnings, we welcomed 2 children into the family.
Carter and Chloe Rose were both born premature and needed a momma at
home. So I ended my career as a dental hygienist in order to care of my children
and play with my dogs. We also constructed a kennel of large magnitude. You
can learn more about our kennel below.
**A quick little update about us: as of 12/2009-we have decreased our numbers
of dogs even further by placing many of our show cocker spaniels in new homes.
We now have only 12 dogs and our home/kennel is quiet happy! I have joined
Smith Dental Care of Hartwell, GA as a part time hygienist & love it! Our children
have grown and are now 7 & 8 years old! We still believe 'focus on less and you
will get so much more'!

With a lot of blood, sweat, and tears we
constructed a kennel that is easy to sanitize
and take care of. The kennel was built when
our children were still sleeping in baby beds.
We were able to put them down for the night,
grab the monitor, and head out for a few
hours of work. We often worked until 3 or 4
am on this project several nights a week.
Making sure to pay attention to the small
details of the kennel, we were able to build a
kennel that actually doesn't stink! Mighty
proud of our accomplishment, we guarantee
you will not find anything of its magnitude in
this region.

Weather permitting all of our dogs spend their
days in their 'green' lots. We have cleared and
fenced in about 3 acres just for our dogs to romp
on safely. At night and during bad weather,
everyone is put in the kennel. Our runs are 5' X 15'
interior space and an additional 5' X 10' exterior
space.
While cold temperatures are not a big problem for
us, we are able to heat the kennel in a time of
need. In the summer we have ample shade and
fans inside the kennel to cool everyone.
Yes-we hold a Georgia state license for our kennel facility.

Thanks to Barn Cam....we are now able to check on and watch our dogs from the TV in our home. We now have working surveilance cameras for added security.

Visitation to Champions of the Heart
|
#1-Visitors are limited to those who have a reservation with a paid deposit. Or when puppies are
appropriate age and are available.
#2-Visitors are allowed at scheduled times only. This is usually when the puppies are at least 4-5 weeks
of age.
#3-Visitors must not visit any other kennels, pets stores, or dog parks prior to visiting.
#4-We understand you may want to bring your dog along to pick out your new puppy. But this is not
allowed. Please leave other pets at home for your visit.
#5-Please understand this is our home. Treat it with respect.
#6-Children are welcome. We ask that you be responsible for your own children during visits. No grabbing
at puppies, no throwing objects at our dogs, no wandering around our property or home un-guided, no entry
into gates that are shut.
#7-Please come prepared to receive information. If you owe a deposit, be prepared to pay it.
I hope these 'rules' do not sound too strict. Our goal is for your family to have a fun and educational
experience while here. Safety is a goal of course also. We have had children who threw puppies, adults
who dropped puppies, and even children who were caught throwing rocks at our dogs.
We ask that you do not visit other 'doggy' places before coming here, to help in disease prevention. Please
dress appropriately. This is a farm....there is mud, dirt, and animal scents. Old tennis shoes and either
pants or shorts are great. (we had a lady who came last year in a mini-skirt, she also had no dignity)
We find it best to limit who you bring to the family members who will own the dog. Depending on how
things go, we will generally show you our sheep/lambs, goats/kids, ponies, and mini donkey.
And finally we ask that you be on time. We schedule our visits for 2 hours. If your appt is at 10 and you
show up at 11:30, we will only have 30 minutes before the next family arrives. And their appt will begin.
We also schedule breaks for the puppies and ourselves. So we just ask that you be courteous to us and to
others.
